No Partying This Time

Travel August 6th, 2007

Yep. Didn’t do the party thing this past weekend. I guess that can be a good thing. It definitely means I saved a bunch of cash that would’ve been spent on drinks. hehe. That doesn’t mean I did nothing though. Well, Friday I stayed in and cleaned out stuff at the house. Saturday, I stayed in until the evening when I went to go have a laid back dinner with a couple of friends. Thing that stuck out that night? We were asked by like four people if we saw a headband where we were sitting throughout our dinner. It was pretty odd. The dude looking for it finally saw it and told me to stand up to get it from under the table. We didn’t see it there at first. It belonged to his daughter, I guess. It was one of those pink hairbands. Hm… that guy was there for over an hour since he was looking for it from when we got there to when we finished eating. I’d be all like, “Well, you lost it. Too bad. We’ll have to get you a new one, sweety.” Unless she really adored it for some reason or another. lol.

Sunday I had no plans, but somehow I ended up going to New York City. My parents were going to visit my sister up there and I asked to tag along since I had nothing else to do. We ended up driving up there in the Ford F350. I drove the second half of the way up there and throughout NYC. Driving through there wasn’t that bad, considering we were in that big ass truck. I thought it was going to be crazy, but it wasn’t. I guess it wasn’t so bad since it was Sunday.

I find a spot by my sister’s place. My parallel parking skills are OK, but when driving such a big truck, it’s a pain, lol. We take a little break at her apartment then go out to get something to eat. The Ruth’s Chris Steak House right next to her wasn’t open yet, so we went to go get tickets to a Broadway show. At first we went to try and see Wicked, but the show had already started and they didn’t have any more performances for the evening. We went next door to try Spelling Bee, but the tickets available were crazy expensive (either $100 or $50 each). We decide to try this ticket place my sister knows where you can get 50-75% off. We get there, in front of some Scientology building (since it had a big Scientology sign), and the line was long, but it moved along pretty quickly. We finally get tickets, but to different show, and then go get something to eat at this really nice Chinese-fusion restaurant.

After, we walk to Rockefeller Center. We went to Kenneth Cole. Damn, they had some really nice shirts, but they were also really expensive… more than I’m used to. My sister interns as a designer for them and is able to get a 50% discount, but she didn’t have her card with her. :( Oh well, next time. This next store, across the street though… OMG. It’s full of purses and women’s stuff, but GEEZ, THE PRICES. I mean… one bag was like over $1700!!!! And some outfits were over $2000!!!! I WAS FALLING OVER. I had never once thought that there existed clothes priced like that… well I guess I knew they existed, but I never thought that I’d actually see them! Hahaha that was certainly a learning experience.

Later, we get to the theater and see the musical, The Color Purple. I had never seen or heard about it before, but I really enjoyed it. I love to see live performances: the extravagant props and stages, the live acting, the playing orchestra, the wonderful singing. This play was no exception. It was a great story, too. I took a crappy picture of the performers as they were taking their bows at the end, but some lady jerked my shoulder and told me “No photography!” Everyone else was taking pictures though, lol. You could see all the flashes.

Nothing much after that. Drove back home the next day, took a nap, chatted a little bit online, and then wrote this boring post. Hehehe. I also uploaded pics of my trip to Flickr. You can also see them in the Pics section, if you remember the Username and Password I wrote in another post.
