Yay! My love for the O.C. has been renewed! The first season is the best. I spent most of the day watching it on DVD (but damn, I really wish for a job instead). Watching it felt like I was seeing it for the first time. Right from the beginning at the start of the pilot episode, I was reminded of why the show was so awesome—the writing, the music, and especially the characters. Ryan is awesome. Sandy is awesome. Seth is awesome. Kirsten is awesome. Summer is awesome. Luke is awesome. Marissa… eh, she’s a pain the a butt, but the show wouldn’t be what it is without her.

My favorite storyline has to be Seth trying to win Summer’s affection. A big geek into comic books and video games and very, very far from her radar, he finally gets an in when Ryan, the hot bad ass who got arrested for stealing a car, arrives on the scene. It’s so hilarious how Seth tries really hard to get Summer’s attention while she obviously has no interest in him. But it is just so great when this little scene happens (keep in mind that she has no idea he likes her, but she’s just using him to meet older, rich guys; and by this point he’s fed up with it):

Seth: Do you have any idea how pathetic it is to listen to you talk about mergers while some guy just stares at your boobs?
Summer: Which guy was staring at my boobs?
Seth: Who cares? The point is if that guy doesn’t know you, he doesn’t care who you really are. He has no idea that every day of third grade, you shared your lunch with that little skinny squirrel who kept getting his nuts stolen by that fat squirrel.
Summer: I hated that mean squirrel.
Seth: And, none of those guys were there when you had to read your poem out loud in class and your hand was shaking because you were nervous and you cared what the other kids thought.
Summer: Poem? What poem?
Seth: I Wish I Was A Mermaid.
Summer: You remember that? That was, like, sixth grade.
Seth: “I wish I was a mermaid and was friends with all the fish, a shiny tail and seashells, that’s…”
Summer kisses Seth
Seth: ”…what I would wish.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww… damn my weakness for romantic scenes.

Now keep in mind they aren’t officially together at this point, and Summer just continues to reject his advances afterwards. But it just gets more awesome for Seth when Anna comes into the picture. Seth attempting to handle two girls coming after him is just priceless—he just doesn’t know how to go from shy loner to having the attention of two beautiful girls. And personally, I’d pick Anna… Samaire Armstrong, who plays her, is just so cute and hot. :X

The show makes some awesome geek references to Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and others (courtesy of cool geek, Seth Cohen). It probably is due in part to Allan Heinberg, one of the writers/producers for the show. He later on took on a project for Marvel Comics and created one of my favorite comics, Young Avengers. Yay for comics!

Right now I’m only on disc 3 of 7, so I still have plenty to watch… :D
