Time for Part Deux of my rousing adventure to attain gaming delights!
So far, me and two friends are camping at a Wal Mart along with two other people who are guaranteed PS3s. Me and only one of my friends will also be getting one each. I think a total of 8 people were there: Me and my two friends, my friend’s friend, the other two PS3 purchasers, and two behind us that came late in the night for the rainchecks. That Wednesday afternoon went by without any troubles. I went to bed as soon as the store closed, and hunkered down in the tent.
November 16, 2006: I wake up at around 6AM. The store opens 7. I’m pretty much the first one up. I check out our camp and it looks like we survived the night without any disturbance. I walk around to get myself warmed up in what felt like 25 degree weather. The sun is out, but the sky is covered by moving clouds. I knew the rain would be coming that day.
As my fellow campers got up, I just sit around playing my DS and reading my comics. Luckily I had just gotten 3 new DS games for this occasion: Tetris DS, Cooking Mama, and Elite Beat Agents. Tetris DS was awesome for multiplayer as was EBA, although I hadn’t unlocked that many songs yet. Cooking Mama was also a surprise; it was pretty fun cooking up Mama’s recipies!
Hours pass by, the Wal Mart opens and soon it is around noon. I feel a drop of water fall on my hands. I look at the pavement and see many other drops. The rain was upon us. We got all our gear inside the tent: the lawn chairs, the bags, and even the cooler. Two of our group went in and bought tent stakes and proceeded to nail down our tent. Everything said and done, we all were bundled in the tent.
It’s practically 2PM and the rains and winds were hitting us like crazy. I was told there was a tornado watch… but damn mother nature! I will not abandon my beloved PS3! The tent was practially moving around and rain leaked in. We were outside a lot in attempts to nail it down as if we were sailors moving around on a ship in the middle of a storm at sea. A couple of towels and sponges were purchased at the Wal Mart to soak up as much water as we could in the tent.
We did our best to wait out the storm and it soon subsided in the late afternoon. My friend (raincheck) went home to dry out some of our clothes and brought back a larger tent for us to stay in. Nice! However, when he was gone and we were putting away the first tent, some punks tried to egg us! >:P Haha, but they suck at it since all they hit was the wall of Wal Mart and completely missed us. Some of us were pissed, but I thought it was hilarious. It could have been worse; I found out someone had been shooting BB guns at other locations.
We had pizza again for dinner and were still getting the weird looks from the regular Wal Mart customers and employees. The night was pretty much the same as the last except for one thing: a pretty large group of what seemed like college students approached us. We were a bit wary of their intentions for such a large gathering that was eager to talk to us. We find out that they were going around offering people waiting in line for PS3s free hot chocolate and donuts! SWEET! That really put a smile on my face that night and restored what used to be a destroyed faith in humanity. We chatted with them for a while, and my friend and I even find out that some of them were UMBC students! And some of the ladies were pretty cute! Nice way to end an evening, I’d say.
I went back in into the tent once again to sleep for our final night out…
